P'u-i
(or Pu-Yi) (1906-1967) Last emperor of China (as Hsuan Tung) from 1908 until his deposition 1912; he was restored for a week 1917. After his deposition he chose to be called Henry. He was president 193234 and emperor 193445 of the Japanese puppet state of Manchukuo (see Manchuria).
Captured by Soviet troops, he was returned to China 1949 and put on trial in the new People's Republic of China 1950. Pardoned by Mao Zedong 1959, he became a worker in a botanical garden in Beijing.
